Top Ten Characters You Wish Would Get Their OWN Book

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Each week they post a new top ten list and invite bloggers to answer it. This weeks is Top Ten Characters You Wish Would Get Their OWN Book. Without further ado, here is my list.

1) Jamie Roth from the Mara Dyer Series by Michelle Hodkin – I adore Jamie! He’s so funny and so sarcastic and I’d love to read more about him either before or after Mara came into his life.

2) The Marauders from Harry Potter by JK Rowling – I WANT THIS SO BADLY! I think everyone wants more information about James, Lily, Sirius and Lupin during their time at Hogwarts. Damnit Rowling just give the people what they want!

3) Charlotte Fairchild from The Infernal Device by Cassandra Clare – Charlotte, dear people, is a BAMF and I want to read more about her. Hopefully, she’ll appear again in The Lost Hours.

4) Alex from the Delirium series by Lauren Oliver – Yeah there wasn’t enough Alex in these books. I wouldn’t mind a detailed description of what he was doing during those last two books, or after, or before.

5) The Darkling from The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo – The Darkling is one of the only villains I’ve actually sort of rooted for! I know it’s messed up but he was all mysterious and sexy. I couldn’t help myself and I would like to know a great deal more about him.

6) Arobynn Hammel from Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas – He is one of the most manipulative and vindictive characters in the Throne of Glass world and one of the most important people in Celaena’s life so I wouldn’t mind spending some more quality time with him.

7) Ress from Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas – I want this because I think it would be hilarious. You just know that Ress knows Celaena and Chaol are sneaking off together! I’d love to read a novella from his POV about how obvious they are.

8) Celia Bowen from the Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern – I know she’s technically a main character but she shared the POV with Marco who I didn’t particularly care for so I would like more Celia please – particularly stories about her early life!

9) Isaac from The Fault In Our Stories by John Green – I needed more from him. I’d love to get a novella or short story from his POV after Gus’s death or after Hazel’s death. It be the most depressing thing in the world but I want to know!

10) THE FREAKING MARAUDERS BY JK ROWLING – JUST GIVE IT TO ME.

The Taylor Swift Book Tag

The Taylor Swift Book Tag is an original tag created by The Book Life. Now I wasn’t tagged by anyone to do this but it’s a book tag that features T-Swizzle and she’s my girl so here I am. So this tag is basically taking Taylor Swift songs and matching them to books!

22

So let us begin!

1) We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together – Series I was in love with but later wanted to Break Up With

Twilight_book_cover

There are a few series that I read that I sort of fell out of love with but the one that stands out the most for me will always be the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer. Like everyone else in the world I was obsessed with these book for a long time but as I got older I started to realise that there was a hell of a lot of problems with them and the characters and eventually I just had to let it go!

we are never ever

2) Red – Pick a Book with a Red CoverHalf Bad: cover of first novel by Sally Green, predicted to be next Harry Potter or Twilight Saga

If you follow me on instagram or Tumblr you’ll see I own a lot of red books but I think I’ll let Half-Bad by Sally Green take centre stage this time, mostly because I have not read it and I really, really need to!

3) The Best Day – Pick a Book That Makes You Feel Nostalgic

The Princess Diaries series by Meg Cabot always brings me back to the good old days of messing around with my friends, talking about Mia and Michael for far too long and then complaining about how the movie was nothing like the books while still loving the movie! Just good, good times!

4) Love Story – Pick a Book with Forbidden Loveworld after

So, so many choices for this. At first I was tempted to pick Clary and Jace from City of Bones through City of Ashes but then I realised I needed to save them for a later question! So I racked my brains and eventually I decided on Penryn and Raffe from Penryn and the End of Days series by Susan EE.

I love these two. They are so sarcastic and funny together and I know technically nothing has happened between them but they are totally in love and it’s wonderful and it’s going to be so painful because human and angel during a civil war between humans and angels and worse still this angel arrested other angels for loving humans! So much forbiddenss!

5) I Knew You Were Trouble – Pick a Book with a Bad Character You Couldn’t Help But Love

i knew you were trouble

I have got to give this one to the Darkling from the Grisha series by Leigh Bardugo. I mean he’s called the Drakling for fuck sake! I should have known he was going to be evil! But of course I was blinded by his charms and even when he showed his true evil, dark colours I still loved him. I even wanted him to win a little bit. I know, the shame.

6) Innocent – Pick a Book That Someone Ruined the Ending For You.

Who can forget when Kanye West interrupted Swiftie during her VMA acceptance speech? No one likewise I can never forget when my friend spoiled the fate of Robb Stark from a Game of Thrones for me. I wasn’t reading the books or even watching the series at the time so it didn’t particularly bother me but then months later I was obsessed with the series, reading the books, declaring Robb one of my favourite characters and flashback! Needless to say I was not happy!

7Requiem by Lauren Oliver) Everything Has Changed – Pick a Character Who Goes Through Extensive Character Development.

I’m going to give this one to Lena Halloway from the Delirium Trilogy by Lauren Oliver. Lena starts the trilogy believing that love is a disease and she cannot wait to get her treatment and be paired off and at the end of the trilogy she’s a rebel, a spy and tearing down the walls that separate people all in the name of love and freedom. It’s a rather big 180!

8) You Belong With Me: Pick You’re Most Anticipated Book Release

I know that Heir of Fire is technically out but my copy is still in the post so I’m still anticipating it’s release to me! I’ve been counting down the days for Heir of Fire and I am so excited to read about Celaena and Chaol again and ugh I just wish I had it now!

you belong with me

9) Forever and Always – Pick Your Favourite Book Couple

So many couples to pick and love. Celaena and Chaol, Penryn and Raffe, Bellamy and Clarke, Harry and Ginny, Ron and Hermione, Rose and Dimitri – I adore them all but I think the first book couple to really get me emotionally invested and keep me emotionally invested was Clary and Jace from the Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare.

loved these two! So much I was even shipping incest – do you realise how good a book has to be to ship incest? Thankfully life worked out and these two are happy and going to get married and have very sarcastic babies! (They will!)

10) Come Back, Be Here – A Book You Would Never Lend Out For Fear of Missing it too Much.

Harry Potter. I would never ever ever give anybody a copy of my Harry Potter Books! Just no! I’d never risk it! My friends are animals! They’d spill something or worse lose them or never return them and Harry has suffered enough!

And that Dear Friends is the end of the Taylor Swift Book Tag! I’m not going to tag anyone directly because I don’t know if people are T-Swift fans or not although in my opinion there are only two types of people – People who like Taylor Swift and Liars – so if you are a Swift fan I tag you and be sure to link me your tags so I can check them out!

Top Ten Authors I Own The Most Books From

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten List and this weeks is Top Ten Authors I Own The Most Books From.

Without further ado here are mine:

authors1

1) James Patterson – I own a grand total of 31 books from James Patterson. I love James Patterson, he was my first introduction to crime novels and for a time he was my favourite author. I own a lot of the Alex Cross novels, all but one of the Women’s Murder Club series and some of his kids books. I actually had more but I gave some of them to a charity shop. I’ve probably owned nearly fifty in my life.

2) JK Rowling – The Queen. I own all 13 of Rowlings books and her Galbraith books! Love her, can’t wait for the next Cormoran Strike novel. To be honest I’ll probably buy every book she ever writes.

3)  Meg Cabot – I own 13 Meg Cabot books! I love Meg Cabot, she’s so funny and quirky and she made my childhood with the Princess Diaries series.

4) Cassandra Clare – I own 9 of Clare’s books. All though three of them are currently on loan to a friend! I love Clare and I loved TMI and TID and i’m really sad that they are both finished.

5) Anthony Horowitz – Once again, I own 9 books! Alex Rider was one of my favourite series as a kid. Loved it so much and was pretty sad when it ended.

authors 2

6) Richelle Mead – Another 9! 9 seems to be the magic number in this list! I own all of the Vampire Academy books and a few of the Bloodlines books. I’m a bigger fan of VA than Bloodlines but I do still plan on finishing the spin-off!

7) Stephanie Meyer – I own 6 Stephanie Meyer books! Magic really since she’s only written five! I have an extra copy of Eclipse for some reason! I didn’t buy it which leader me to believe I stole it from someone! Oh well.

8) Michael Connelly – I own 5 MC books. Now, I haven’t read all of them…(Just one) but I still own them and I do still plan to read them! I really enjoyed the one I did read.

9) Lauren Oliver – I own 4 of Oliver’s books. I have the Requiem trilogy and Before I Fall – which I still need to read!

10) Nicholas Sparks/PC and Kristen Cast – And we end on a draw! I own 4 books for both Sparks and the Casts! Not exactly my favourite authors of all times but at a time I did love the three of them quite a bit.

Delirium Pilot: Review

delirium

Author/Writer: Lauren Oliver/ Karyn Usher

Publisher/ Distributor: HarperCollins/Hulu -Wigs

Summary: Ninety-five days, and then I’ll be safe. I wonder whether the procedure will hurt. I want to get it over with. It’s hard to be patient. It’s hard not to be afraid while I’m still uncured, though so far the deliria hasn’t touched me yet. Still, I worry. They say that in the old days, love drove people to madness. The deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it and when you don’t. (Via Goodreads.)

Review:

I was really excited when I heard that Delirium was going to be made into a TV series and then I was very disappointed when it wasn’t picked up. Flash-forward a year later and Hulu (or in my case for me Wigs.com) are releasing the pilot and the excitement grew once more. Now I have watched it and I understand why it wasn’t picked up.

There were a lot of problems in the pilot. Emma Roberts voice over in the beginning felt rather stilted and flat, like she was being forced to talk or something. It just didn’t set me up for the show once it began and then it stopped rather abruptly. I expected another voice over to end the episode but it just faded to black. So to me that made the episode appear a little unbalanced.

The actors were fine. I thought they did an okay job with what they had to work with, the problem really was the script. When a book is adapted into a TV show most writers actually stretch out the book, either to a full season or half a season or two episodes or something. They did not do that wit Delirium. They condensed the entire book into one 45 minute episode and it was awful.

The result was that everything felt rushed and so the relationships were just not believable. Alex and Lena’s relationship had no progression. They met and then they were in love. Lena had no real difficulty with this. In the book she’s terrified of becoming like her mother and getting the disease, this is briefly mentioned in the episode but quickly moved past. Lena suddenly has no qualms about falling in love and being with Alex. It just wasn’t good. It wasn’t loyal to the characters. I did not like it.

A lot of the dialogue too was awkward and cheesy. Some of the things that were wonderful on the page just didn’t translate well to the screen so at times it was difficult to watch. I feel if they had tweaked it some bit it could have been better but alas, no.

They also changed a lot of things from the book. Aunt Carol, Uncle William, Jenny and Grace do not exist. The swapped Lena’s mother as the prisoner for her father which seemed unnecessary. Mayor Hardgrove is a woman, used to be in love with Thomas Finemen, is now a senator and running for President. Fred Hardgrove is only 17 and does not seem like a psychotic Jackass. It was strange. And Julian is extra creepy in the show. It is one thing to look at girls, it is another to hide in the bushes and look at girls. I also didn’t like the characterisation of Hana and how her relationship with Lena was portrayed. I felt very let down by that.

I think if they had stretched out the first book to six even ten episodes, as opposed to piling it all in, the series probably would have been picked up.

However, I also think is Fox had given the series a chance as it, the remainder of the season would have been good. It just had a bad pilot. Although I’m sad that the series wasn’t picked up I do understand why.
