Top Ten Books on my TBR for Summer 2015

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. Each week they have a new top ten list which they invite bloggers to participate in. This week’s list is Top Ten Books on my TBR for Summer 2015 so without further ado lets jump into the list!

1) The Martian by Andy Weir.

the martian

The martian is about an astronaut who gets left behind on Mars after a space mission goes wrong. He has to try and survive on very limited resources all the while trying to contact NASA who believe him to be dead. Now this sounds like a bit f a dark read for summer but I’ve heard that it’s actually really funny. Very much looking forward to reading this.

2) I Was Here by Gayle Forman.

i was here

I Was Here centres around this girl named Cody who’s best friend Meg commits suicide and her attempts to understand why and deal with it. Again not exactly light fluffy reading but I really enjoy Gayle Forman and she never fails to pull on my heart strings so this should be a good one.

3) The Scorch Trials by James Dashner.

the scorch trials

This is the second book in the Maze Runner series and it follows the gladers after they escape the maze. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first book but I did enjoy the movie so I want to give this a read before the next one comes out.

4) The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton

miniaturist

The Miniaturist follows this girl Nella who’s sent to marry a wealthy merchant. He gives her a miniature replica of their home but soon Nella realises there is more to this gift then meets the eye. I’ve heard some mixed things about the Miniaturist but the consensus seems to be that its a slow book but beautifully written so I think its still wort a read.

5) Skin by Ilka Tampke

skin

I received this book to review from Hodder Books and I’ll be honest I’m not a hundred percent sure whats its about, the summary doesn’t give much away, but it sounds mystical and mysterious and cool. It’s also really beautiful so I’m excited to read it!

6)  I’d Tell You I Love You, But Then I’d Have To Kill You by Ally Carter.

id tell you

Finally something light-hearted! This book follows Cammie who attends a school for geniuses which is actually a school for spies. I really love Ally Carter’s series Heist Society so I think I’ll love this this! It sounds like a lot of fun!

7) Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson.

amy

Whats more summery than a road trip? This book is exactly what it says on the tin: Amy and Roger take the scenic route on a road trip. I’ve never read anything by Morgan Matson before but I’ve always heard great things about her book so I’m excited to pick this up!

8) Across the Universe by Beth Revis.

across the universe

This book has been on my TBR list for ages! It’s a love story mystery set in Space with a really pretty cover! Can’t wait to give it a read.

9) The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.

name of the wind

I don’t think this one needs much explanation. I have heard nothing but good things about this book and it’s been on my TBR list forever! I’m so excited to read it, it sounds like an incredible fantasy book!

and finally:

10) Harry Potter by JK Rowling

harry-potter-books

I plan on re-reading the Harry Potter series again this summer. I had so much fun reading it last year again that its definitely going to become an annual thing for me!

And that is my Top Ten List! Let me know if you plan on reading any of these books this summer and I will see you soon with a new post! Goodbyeee!

Disney Book Tag

Walt-Disney-Logo

Hello, I’m back with another tag! This tag is one I’m particularly excited by because it combines two of my favourite things; Disney and Books! This tag was created by Katytastic on youtube which you should check out! Now, I wasn’t exactly tagged to do this but shhhh!

Let’s begin!

1. The Little Mermaid – A Character Who Is Out Of Their Element, a “Fish out of Water”

Ariel_disney

I think I’m going to give this one to Simon Lewis! In the first book or two (or three of four) Simon is in the Shadowhunter world and he doesn’t really assimilate straight away and then he becomes a Downworlder so he’s even more at odds with the world or society he’s found himself in! It takes him some time to truly fit in but, thankfully, he eventually does! (I hope thats not a spoiler.)

2. Cinderella – A Character Who Goes Through A Major Transformation

cinderella

Let’s give this one to Celaena Sardothien. Celaena dones’t exactly have a smooth upbringing, she experiences something that definitely changes her and transforms her into an assassin something she never would have been and then she changes again! Celaena goes through more than most people combined! Let’s vague it up for spoiler avoidance!

3. Snow White – A Book With An Eclectic Cast of Characters

snow white

I think I;m going to give this one to Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. There’s angels and chimera and humans, evil people, good people, morally ambiguous people! Just a very eclectic cast! I like it.

4. Sleeping Beauty – A Book That Put You To Sleep

sleeping-beauty-clip-art-Famous-characters-Walt-Disney-Sleeping-beauty-303093

I have to give this to Sabriel by Garth Nix. I did finish it but it was a long and arduous process although the ending did sort of capture me so I’ll probably read the sequels at some point!

5. The Lion King – A Character Who Had Something Traumatic Happen To Them In Childhood

Simba_KHII

Every character ever? But I suppose there can be only one and the most obvious character is Harry Potter. Witnesses his parents murder, nearly dies becomes the Chosen one instead. Thats a lot for a one year old to deal with.

6. Beauty and the Beast – A Beast of a Book (a big book) That You Were Intimidated by, But Found the Story to be Beautiful

Beast_pose

I’m going to give this to Order of the Phoenix by JK Rowling. Probably one of the biggest books I’ve ever read and I think one of the first Harry Potter books I was ever given. Thanks for that mom.

7. Aladdin – A Character Who Gets Their Wish Granted, For Better Or Worse

aladdin

Akivia’s wish to get the love of his life back came through, unfortunately it came after he slaughtered most of her people and her family. Roses don’t exactly make up for that.

8. Mulan – A Character Who Pretends To Be Someone or Something They Are Not

mulan

This one goes out to Celaena Sardothien who is pretending to be something she’s not, although she’d not really pretending anymore. Avoiding spoilers is hard.

9. Toy Story – A Book With characters You Wish Would Come To Life

toy story

I would like the characters from Anna and the French Kiss to come to life. I wouldn’t mind hanging out with them for awhile until I can steal Etienne away from Anna…*evil laugh*

10. Disney Descendants – Your Favourite Villain Or Morally Ambiguous Character

Descendants-isle-of-lost-cover-reveal_(2)

I think my favourite villain is Voldemort. Sorry The Darkling you were a close second.

So, that is the Disney Book Tag! I tag everyone who reads this to do it and if you do please link it down below so I can check it out! 😀

WishList Wendesday #2

wishlist wednesday2

WishList Wednesday is a weekly meme that highlights books that have already been published that I have just added to my wish list or have been pining over in book shops…as ya do.

look whos backAuthor: Timur Vermes

Publisher: MacLehose Press

Genre: Contemporary Fiction

Summary: Berlin, Summer 2011. Adolf Hitler wakes up on a patch of open ground, alive and well. Things have changed – no Eva Braun, no Nazi party, no war. Hitler barely recognises his beloved Fatherland, filled with immigrants and run by a woman.

People certainly recognise him, albeit as a flawless impersonator who refuses to break character. The unthinkable, the inevitable happens, and the ranting Hitler goes viral, becomes a YouTube star, gets his own T.V. show, and people begin to listen. But the Führer has another programme with even greater ambition – to set the country he finds a shambles back to rights.

Look Who’s Back stunned and then thrilled 1.5 million German readers with its fearless approach to the most taboo of subjects. Naive yet insightful, repellent yet strangely sympathetic, the revived Hitler unquestionably has a spring in his step. (Via Goodreads)

This book sounds somewhat ridiculous but also incredibly hilarious. I want it so badly.
